Check your balance

Your balance lives at the top of the employee dashboard as a five-card formula: Carried Over + Allocated (Main) + Additional PTO − Used = Remaining. Every number on the page comes from the same calculation, so the header can never contradict the usage chart or the sidebar.

For the rules behind the numbers (days per cycle, carry-over, expiry), open the My Policy tab.

What each card means

  • "Carried Over": days brought over from your previous cycle, including their expiry rule if one applies.
  • "Allocated (Main)": your main policy allotment for the current cycle, including tenure-based extras. During a new-hire waiting period this can show as locked.
  • "Additional PTO": bonus days from tags (for example seniority or union membership), stacked on top of the main allotment.
  • "Used": approved days in the current cycle. Clicking it opens your History filtered to approved requests.
  • "Remaining": what you can still request right now. Pending requests reserve days, so Remaining already accounts for them.

Under an accrual policy, Remaining reflects what you have earned so far, not the full year's allotment.

The usage chart

The Planning tab's "Usage vs. cycle progress" card shows how your usage compares to how far the cycle has progressed, with three stats: "Used", "Cycle", and "Allotment left". "Allotment left" always equals the Remaining header card: both read the same calculation.

See the rules: the My Policy tab

  1. Open the "My Policy" tab on your dashboard (or click the "PTO reset date:" link at the top right).
  2. Check "Days / cycle" and the "Effective source": which level your policy comes from (a direct assignment, a tag, your team, department, or location).
  3. Review "PTO Reset & Carry-over": your current carried-over balance, the expiry rule, the expiry date, and anything already forfeited.
  4. See "Additional PTO from active tags" and which personal benefits you are eligible for.

My Policy is read-only. If something looks wrong, your manager or admin can adjust the policy or assignment.

Expiring days

When carried-over days have an expiry date, the dashboard header shows an "expiring soon" chip and you receive reminders before the deadline. Use them or they lapse on the date shown in My Policy.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Remaining lower than Allocated minus Used?
Pending requests reserve days as soon as you submit them, and accrual policies only count what you have earned so far. Expand the Remaining card for the exact breakdown.
Where do I see my sick days?
Sick leave is tracked separately from this formula. The "Sick Leave" card on the Planning tab shows your current year's count.
When does my balance reset?
On the date shown as "PTO reset date:" at the top of your dashboard: January 1 under a calendar-year policy, or your hire anniversary under an anniversary policy.
